| If you want unconditional love, a companion with a brave heart in a small package, a Yorkshire Terrier or Biewer fills the bill. I always had large dogs. My family bred and showed Weimeraners. I used to show Afghan Hounds and also had a Borzoi and never had much regard for the small breeds and dismissed them as being silly foo foo dogs. When my father passed away, I inherited his beloved little Yorkie who had the foo foo name of Muffy. I thought it was embarrasing and tried to change it to Murphy for more dignity, but she wouldn't have it. Muffy knew me well from many visits when my family would come to Puget Sound for fishing and crabbing. Muffy was alway ready to jump in the boat and stay out of the way. She accompanied us to Baja, Mexico, where we lived on a sailboat and there she learned to swim in the Sea of Cortez. She would jump into and out of the dinghy to go to shore for potty breaks and she loved to stand in the bow of the dinghy with her hair flying and then she would jump into the water and swim to shore with her coat floating like a mermaid. Well that is all it took for my husband and I to fall in love with the Yorkshire Terrier breed. So brave, athletic, and fearless. We lost our beloved Muffy to cancer at the age of 14 1/2. It was the only time I saw my husband cry. Two months later we couldn't stand it any longer and purchased our first Yorkie puppy and the rest is history. Our home is located on two fenced acres that is like living in a park, with lots of lawn and gardens and room for our dogs to run. And they run and turn like little Greyhounds. We fell in love with the Biewer a few years ago and it took well over two years to find our foundation dogs. Taking our time and being patient really paid off. We have world class German Champion Biewer bloodlines. |
